Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive at Bangalore

Arrive at Bangalore Airport. Following immigration, baggage collection and customs formalities, our representative will meet, as you exit the terminal building and will transfer you to your Hotel.
Bangalore, India's sixth largest city, is known as the Garden City because of its countless parks and tree-lined avenues. It was founded in 1537 by a local chieftain called Kempe Gowda, and later extended by Tipu Sultan, the Wodeyars of Mysore and the British. Set at an altitude of over 1000 m, the climate adds to the attractions of this city, now famous as the Silicon Valley of India.
Afternoon take a tour of the city of Bangalore visiting the Lal Bagh which has a variety of old trees, fountains, lotus pools, terraces and an assortment of tropical and sub-tropical herbs. Also, see the Peninsular Gneissic Complex that is home to a 2500-2600 year old rock. You will also visit the brilliantly painted and carved summer palace of Tipu Sultan, the Bull Temple with its monolithic bull statue and drive past the government buildings.

Day 2 Bangalore / Mysore

After buffet breakfast at the hotel you would be driven Bangalore to Mysore, (124 KMS / 3 Hrs). En route visit Srirangapatnam - the 18th century Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan.
Mysore - Once the capital of a princely state, Mysore still carries on its placid shoulders the aura and glamour of palaces, the grandeur of festivals of times gone by, but all of it with a quiet, unhurried dignity. Mysore is often called the Jewel of Karnataka - its arts, culture, buildings, festivals, gardens and parks being the quintessence of the state's heritage.
Your infatuation with Mysore begins with the Maharaja's Palace, at the heart of the city. It is a veritable treasure trove of exquisite carvings and works of art from the world over. Proceed to the Rajendra Art Gallery has some remarkable selections of paintings by Raja Ravi Verma, Nicholas Roerich and traditional paintings in the Mysore style.

Day 3 Mysore

After breakfast proceed for sightseeing of Mysore Palace, one of the major attractions of Mysore - The infatuation with Mysore begins with the Maharaja's Palace, at the heart of the city. It is a veritable treasure trove of exquisite carvings and works of art from the world over. Overlooking the city of Mysore are the Chamundi Hills, where stands a monolithic statue of the Nandi Bull.
Proceed to the Rajendra Art Gallery has some remarkable selections of paintings by Raja Ravi Verma, Nicholas Roerich and traditional paintings in the Mysore style.
Evening proceed to world famous Brindavan Gardens expanded over 150 acres. The musical fountain and light show adds attraction to the gardens.

Day 4 Mysore / Ooty

Morning leave for Ooty by Surface (270 Kms /06 Hrs approximately).
Udhagamandalam (Ooty), the "Queen of hill stations" is the capital of Nilgiri district. It is one of the Best tourist resorts and is called as "Blue Mountains". It is a land of dreams and a picturesque hill station. It is situated at a distance of 105 km away from Coimbatore. The height of the hills in the Nilgiri range varies between 2280 and 2290 meters, the highest peak being Doddabetta at a height of 2623 meters.
This famous hill station is at the junction of TamilNadu, Kerala and Karnataka, three southern states of India. British founded this hill resort which seemed to them as their summer headquarters. Before that time, the area was inhabited by Todas. These tribal people still inhabit the area, but only around 3000 remain.

Day 5 In Ooty

Morning leave to enjoy to visit The Nilgiri Mountain Railway toy train is the highlight of a visit to the hill settlement of Ooty, in India's southern state of Tamil Nadu. Established in the early 19th century by the British as the summer headquarters of the Chennai government, Ooty is now a soothing place for visitors to escape the summer heat. The historic railway line was completed in 1899, 45 years after the first plans were drawn up.
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is located in India's southern state of Tamil Nadu. It runs from Metupalaiyam to Udagamandalam (Ooty), via Coonoor, in the Nilgiri Hills. The track is 46 kilometers (28.5 miles) long, and passes over 26 viaducts, and through 16 tunnels and tall girder bridges. This railway is particularly picturesque because of the surrounding rocky terrain, tea plantations, and forested hills. Coonoor, with its world famous teas, is a tourist destination in itself.
Later visit Botanical Gardens and the Museum with the numerous varieties of ornamental trees and plants is an attraction for all tourists, One can see the best profiles of nature, each embedded with a distinctive grandeur. Its the majestic waterfalls, never-ending forests, and beautiful tea gardens, lush green meadows, placid lake, manicured golf courses that are really spell.

Day 6 Ooty / Madurai

Today after breakfast proceed for Madurai by Surface ( 300 km – 6 hours).
One of the oldest cities in South India, Madurai has been the centre of learning and pilgrimage for centuries. Spread along the rocky banks of the river Vaigai in the state of Tamil Nadu, this modern industrial city is today famous as a temple town. Upon arrival check in at your hotel.
In the evening, you will proceed to the Meenakshi temple complex to witness the evening Aarti ceremony in which Lord Shiva is carried in a palanquin accompanied by musicians, temple singers and priests to the temple of his consort Parvati to spend the night. Note: Foreigners (Non Hindus) are not allowed inside the inner sanctum of the temple.

Day 7 Madurai - Munnar

Morning proceed for sightseeing tour of Madurai City - The temple town is unique in that all its temples are living temples and it remains a major religious centre attracting pilgrims the year round. Madurai's main attraction is the famous Meenakshi temples in the heart of the old town, a riotously baroque example of Dravidian architecture with gopurams (towers) covered from top to bottom with a breathless profusion of multi-colored images of gods, goddesses, animals and mythical figures. The temple complex is a city within a city and one can spend days exploring its labyrinthine corridors and halls. Another attraction is the Tirumalai Nayak Palace (1636) restored by Lord Napier, dance drama concerts are performed daily.
Afternoon proceed for Munnar by Surface ( 160 Km / 4 hours.) - one of the Important hill station and picnic sport on Kerala state map. Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. 1600 m above sea level, this hill station was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India.
Throughout the journey enjoy beautiful streams small water falls , Rubber, Pepper cardamom and Tea plantations and thick forests, God has blessed his own country with incomparable beauty – to have everlasting memory of your holiday in Kerala.

Day 8 In Munnar

After breakfast: you will visit Erivikulam National Park.
Eravikulam National Park is 97 sq. km. in extent, situated along the crest of the Western Ghats in the High Ranges of Idukki district of Kerala state, India.
The Park holds the largest viable population of the endangered (IUCN) Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragus hylocrius).
Apart from tahr, the Park is the abode of other little known fauna such as Nilgiri marten, ruddy mongoose, small clawed otter, dusky striped sqirrel etc.
Late afternoon, you will go for a stroll in Tea Estates. Meet the local people engaged in tea Industry.

Day 9 Munnar / Periyar

After breakfast: leave for Munnar to Periyar by Surface (160 Kms /04.30 Hrs approximately).
Thekkady is one of India's most fascinating natural wildlife sanctuaries, where you can watch wildlife at close range. The vegetation, the flora and fauna and the birds of Thekkady are uniquely rich, vast and varied that it does not bear semblance to any other wildlife sanctuaries in the world.
The spice plantation in Thekkady is one of the major spice plantations in Kerala. The spice plantations in Kerala are captivating farms to wander in, since different spices are cultivated in different sections of each plantation.
Evening: enjoy a boat safari in lake Periyar in the National Park, known for herds of wild elephant, bison, deer and spectacular bird life in Periyar National Park - set in the heart of the Cardamom Hills of Kerala the Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve, offers a rare opportunity to enjoy South India's wild life and beauty. The park has a picturesque lake at the heart of the sanctuary. Herds of elephant and sambar, gaur and wild pigs and wander down to the lakeside and can be observed from the launches that cruise the lake. Periyar also harbours the leopard, wild dog, barking deer and mouse deer. On the rocky outcrops along the lake, monitor lizards can be seen basking in the sun.

Day 10 Periyar / Cochin

After breakfast: leave for Periyar to Cochin by Surface (178 Kms /04 Hrs approximately).
Kochi: Kochi is the major port city on the west coast of India by the Arabian Sea. The city of Kochi is Kerala's second largest city. Heralded as the Queen of Arabian Sea, Kochi was an important spice trading centre on the Arabian Sea coast from the 14th century. Occupied by the Portuguese Empire in 1503, Kochi was the first of the European colonies in India. It remained the main seat of Portuguese India until 1530, when Goa was chosen instead. The city was later occupied by the Dutch and the British, with the Kingdom of Cochin becoming a princely state.

Day 11 Cochin

Morning: Sightseeing of Fort Kochi area visiting Dutch Palace or Mattancherry palace (remains closed on Fridays) is one of the oldest examples of the Portuguese architecture with oriental influence and is unique from the historical and architectural point of view, Jewish synagogue (remains closed on Fridays and Saturdays) is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. It was built in 1568 by the Malabar Yehudan people or Cochin Jewish community in the Kingdom of Cochin & Chinese fishing nets.
Evening: Witness Kathakali Dance performance. Kathakali is a highly stylized classical Indian dance-drama noted for the attractive make-up of characters, elaborate costumes, detailed gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the anchor playback music and complementary percussion. It originated in the country's present day state of Kerala during the 17th century and has developed over the years with improved looks, refined gestures and added themes besides more ornate singing and precise drumming.

Day 12 Cochin / Kumarakom

After breakfast: leave for Cochin to Kumarakom by Surface (68 Kms /02 Hrs approximately).
On arrival at Kumarakom you would proceed embark houseboat for enjoying an overnight stay. Kettuvallams, the stitched boats provide the best way to experience the colourful backwaters of Kerala. The wood commonly used to make Kettuvallams is 'Anhili', which is found in abundance in central Travancore area. Large planks are tied together using hand made coir ropes and beaten coconut fibres. This gives the Kettuvallams enough strength to withstand heavy waves in the sea. Kettuvallams are built entirely without the use of nails. It requires great skill and adroitness to construct these giant boats by tying huge planks of jack wood together. The boats are applied with fish oil and cashew nut oil and left to cure for days. With careful maintenance, they last for generations.

Day 13 Alleppey / Kovalam

After buffet breakfast disembark Houseboat at Allepey & proceed to Kovalam by surface (158 Kms. / 4 Hours).
Kovalam, one of India's internationally renowned beaches, in the God's own country, Kerala. A favorite haunt of Europeans since the 1930s, Kovalam consists of three successive crescent beaches. Kovalam, a sheltered natural bay, the azure blue waters and the sumptuous spread of green palm groves make it a tropical paradise of sorts. Sun bathing, Swimming, Ayurvedic Rejuvenatio, Yoga and meditation, Herbal body toning massages, Special Cultural Programmers, Catamaran cruising; the possibilities are many. The Kovalam lighthouse beach is where most visitors spend their time.
Rest of the day free to relax at Kovalam Beach.

Day 14 Kovalam

After breakfast proceed to the tour of Trivandrum visiting –Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple - Covering an area of about 2,400 sq. metres, the temple of Sri Padmanabhaswamy is believed to be around 260 years old. The temple with its gopuram (tower) soaring majestically upwards is believed to be one of the 108 shrines sacred to the Vaishnavites in India. The main entrance to the temple is through the eastern gopuram that towers to over 30 metres and is devised in the Dravidian style. The deity of the temple, Padmanabha (an incarnation of Vishnu) reclines on the sacred serpent in the inner sanctum. The main shrine inside the temple is well guarded with a number of massive doors and darshan (audience) can be had through the three-door openings into the sanctum sanctorum.
Napier Museum - Dating back to 1880, the Napier Museum building is a combination of the Kerala, Mughal, Chinese and Italian architectural styles. The building has a unique natural air-conditioning system. A visit to this museum gives you glimpses of Kerala's rich cultural heritage. The museum has an excellent collection of bronzes, historic ornaments, ivory carvings and chariots, and life-size figures of the Kathakali dancers in full costume.

Day 15 Visit Kanyakumari

After buffet breakfast at the hotel, drive to Kanyakumari or Capecomorin (2-3 Hrs) enroute visit Padmanabhapuram Palace - Previously well known as the head quarters of Travancore Maharajah’s, biggest wooden palace complex in South India. Capecomorin Or Kanyakumari is at the tail point of India, where the three sea‘s meet together. The place is most famous for the spectacular sunset and moonrise. Other attractions include Vivekanada rock, memorial build for Tiruvalluvar, the author of the philosophical work Tirukkural, The temple of Kumari Amman (the virgin lady) and Gandhi Memorial etc.
Kanyakumari is located at the southern tip of the Indian peninsula. From the Kanyakumari beach, which overlooks the convergence of the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, one could see a spectacular sunrise and sunset. About 400 metres into the sea, there is the Vivekananda Rock. This was where Swami Vivekanada, a great thinker and philosopher of India, attained enlightenment through deep meditation. The Vivekananda memorial is built on this rock and is accessible only by boat.
On the way visit -Padmanabhapuram Palace: This palace is a spectacular example of Travancore style architecture. Built during the period of 16th - 18th centuries this palace acted as the seat of Travancore rulers. The workmanship of the artisans is awe-inspiring and their expertise can be seen throughout the palace- flooring made wholly with natural components, exquisitely carved wooden ceilings, dance halls with granite flooring, well-designed courtyards, and underground passageways and so on. The palace is well preserved and gives the air of the life during that period with its architectural style, layout of the rooms, exquisite furniture, paintings etc.
Suchindram Temple: This is a temple dedicated to the three chief Hindu Gods - Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. While Brahma stands for creation, Shiva stands for destruction and Vishnu stands for balance in nature. This temple has two interesting legends associated with it. This 134 feet temple of Suchindram is architecture of amazing dexterity and endeavor. The whole of the front face of the temple covered with sculpting from the Hindu mythology. Inside the temple is the Lingam, representing the three Gods. The Suchindram temple is very famous for the musical pillars. The pillars are constructed in such a way that when they are tapped, they give off various musical notes. Besides there is also sculptures of Hanumana, the devotee of God Rama and also the sculpture of several other Hindu deities.
It is very popular to watch the sunrise/sunset here. Because this is a meeting point of three ocean bodies - the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean, and the Arabian Sea - the spectacular sunrise/sunset sight is considered to even more special.
After sunset visit back to Kovalam hotel.
