Day by Day Itinerary
You arrival in Cochin. Assistance upon arrival at airport & transfer to your hotel.
Kochi: Kochi is the major port city on the west coast of India by the Arabian Sea. The city of Kochi is Kerala's second largest city. Heralded as the Queen of Arabian Sea, Kochi was an important spice trading centre on the Arabian Sea coast from the 14th century. Occupied by the Portuguese Empire in 1503, Kochi was the first of the European colonies in India. It remained the main seat of Portuguese India until 1530, when Goa was chosen instead. The city was later occupied by the Dutch and the British, with the Kingdom of Cochin becoming a princely state.
Afternoon: Sightseeing of Fort Kochi area visiting Dutch Palace or Mattancherry palace (remains closed on Fridays) is one of the oldest examples of the Portuguese architecture with oriental influence and is unique from the historical and architectural point of view, Jewish synagogue (remains closed on Fridays and Saturdays) is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. It was built in 1568 by the Malabar Yehudan people or Cochin Jewish community in the Kingdom of Cochin & Chinese fishing nets.
Evening: Witness Kathakali Dance performance. Kathakali is a highly stylized classical Indian dance-drama noted for the attractive make-up of characters, elaborate costumes, detailed gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the anchor playback music and complementary percussion. It originated in the country's present day state of Kerala during the 17th century and has developed over the years with improved looks, refined gestures and added themes besides more ornate singing and precise drumming.

After buffet breakfast at hotel proceed to Kumarakom by surface (63 Km / 1 ½ Hours). The village of Kumarakom is a cluster of little islands on the Vembanadu Lake in Kerala. It is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna and is noted for its bird sanctuary where many species of migratory birds visit. The Vembanadu Lake, the largest backwater in Kerala, is also habitat for many marine and freshwater fish species and it teems with Karimeen, Shrimp and Prawns. It is a major tourist attraction.The gorgeous green of the fringed palms ripple in the blue waters and blend into wavelets. The people on the banks of Vembanadu Lake are generally peace-loving and follow a neat and healthy lifestyle. Their dressing is immaculate, usually spotless whites. The food mainly consists of rice and fish. Fish is a very important item in their menu for lunch and dinner. On arrival proceed to hotel for check-in. Enjoy the rest of the day in the beautiful backwaters of Kerala. Enjoy the evening sunset cruise on lake. Overnight at hotel. Meals: Breakfast.
After breakfast at hotel you will proceed to day boat ride from Kumarakom (02 – 03 hrs.). The backwaters cruise takes off through a network of canals with a back drop of villages and coconut trees on the shores.
The most suitable way to watch birds at Kumarakom sanctuary is by scheduling a boat trip. Kumarakom became a tourist location only in the recent times, but now a boom for tourists is happening in Kumarakom.The huge water vessels known as houseboats or Kettuvallams, with excellent facilities including balconies,bed rooms, toilets, living rooms, kitchen, etc.. are available for cruise and sightseeing. Kumarakom is also located on the banks of the Vembanad Lake. A cruise on a houseboat through the enchanting Vembanadu lake is a great experience. One can skim the beauty of the backwaters of Kerala through this trip on a traditional Kerala style houseboat. Lunch will be served on House Boat.
